Pavegen’s sustainable garden feature wins Gold at RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Allia Future Business Centre tenant Pavegen provides novel green energy flooring for winning sustainable garden
An innovative sustainable garden by the New West End Company has just won a gold medal at this week’s Chelsea Flower Show, and features a multifunctional custom flooring system from Pavegen. As people walk through the garden, they step on special tiles which generate off-grid electricity.
Pavegen is the global leader in converting footsteps into energy, data and rewards. Founded by Industrial Technology and Design graduate Laurence Kemball-Cook, who says: “We believe in smarter cities which put people rather than machines first. Working with New West End Company to create a new garden in London’s West End provides us with a great demonstration of how clean-tech is going to transform our cities into places which improve the environment and create happier, healthier people.”
The garden was designed to provide a communal green oasis for use all year around, and the new technology works with the space seamlessly. Kate Gould, award-winning garden designer says: “Showcasing any new technology is always a challenge, but using the Pavegen product to help green the cities of London whilst using the plant palette that I have always used has shown that traditional gardening methods can go hand in hand with green technology helping make our cities happier, healthier places.”
