Bonds commended to the Lords

Baroness Stedman Scott commends Allia’s charitable bonds in her maiden speech to the House of Lords.

In her maiden speech to the House of Lords today, Baroness Stedman-Scott commended Allia’s charitable bonds as an innovative solution to raise the finance needed to help people overcome the barriers and issues they face. She said:

“We have to make sure that innovation is not only given to identifying solutions to help people overcome the barriers they face and the issues they face, but in the development of different forms of finance. After all, my Lords, all this has to be paid for. I would draw your attention to the bonds developed by Allia, where investors can make available working capital in the knowledge that they will be guaranteed to get it back, which I would think would be a good thing. And of course to the social impact bonds. Time prevents me from going into detail about these two things, but they really should be given serious consideration. The need for us to help those furthest from the labour market is greater than it’s ever been, and we are going to have to turn every stone to find the resource to make sure we can help these people in difficult times.”

Baroness Stedman-Scott is chief executive of Tomorrow’s People, one of the causes raising funds through our charitable bonds.
